Friction folders first originated in Miki, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan back in 1986 and have no traditional locking mechanism, instead relying on the unique design of the blade and handle to secure the blade. Originally known as a higonokami, a friction folder utilizes the blades extended lever to 'lock' the knife open along with the downward pressure of the users hand.

This Zanutto Custom friction folder features a sheepsfoot-style, USA-made repurposed mill file blade coupled with jade G10 scales held together with aluminum spacers & brass rivets.
